There are some tried and tested walks for you to do. From 1 hour to 5. Feel free to use the O.S map too if you want to freestyle your own route. There is so much terrain here, rivers, moorland, fields, hills, reservoirs, beach and tors.
Depending on your bike, riding here is very diverse. Haldon Hill (20mins) is a great woodland park for off roading and you can hire bikes there. They also have a freestyle park, it’s good for all ages and levels. www.forestcyclehire.co.uk . Or you can use our Dartmoor cycling map.
Fly-fishing at the reservoirs – drop your day permit cash in the box and off you go. Private lessons can be arranged. Trout fishing all over – we like Tavistock lakes, www.tavistocktroutfishery.co.uk, as they have a good kids pond to fish in and Tavistock has a great pannier market. Also Fingle Bridge Inn offers day permit to fish in the river Teign – totally gorgeous spot.
Horse-riding on the moor is easily arranged to suit all capabilities, pub rides are a good day out. This is a fantastic area to ride. www.babenystables.co.uk have good stables, take care of their horses and keep their prices down. Shilstone Rocks is also very good but a bit more pricey.
Dartmoor is 47,000 hectares of open access land, so if you want to climb you can. We have detailed maps of the area to help you but you will need your own equipment. We can also organise guides to take climbers to many different locations throughout the south west, or on our local crags. The local indoor climbing centre is 20mins away with routes to suit all.
